We love Kate+Kris
We’ve met some new photographer friends in town. While they focus on love, it definitely has a twist beyond the normal “photojournalistic” style of wedding photography and we’d like to take this opportunity to introduce you to our new friends Kate and Kris of Kate and Kris Modern Photography. So, why weddings? We know you are passionate about photography as art, but what made you decide to focus on the wedding niche?
In a word, Love. Not the casual, convenient counterfeit love that some people embrace, but the real deal. There is a quote that says, “It’s easy to take off your clothes and have sex. People do it all the time. But opening up your soul to someone, letting them into your spirit, thoughts, fears, future, hopes, dreams… that is being naked.” It is that kind of deep vulnerability that we want our pictures to communicate. In that kind of relationship is where you find this amazing raw beauty that is full of risk and love and the freedom to have fun and enjoy life. It’s challenging and exhilarating to try and take the pictures that tell those kind of love stories.
What is your favorite thing to photograph in relation to a couple’s love story?
Engagement sessions have become our passion because they are just so much fun! Being engaged is an exciting and simultaneously crazy time. We want to help couples enjoy this special season by offering a life+style engagement session that is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that they will never forget. This is where we so relate to you Bon Bon ladies because we love the little details that make such a difference in telling a story. We create a handcrafted engagement session that showcases a couple’s unique style and is full of adventure and FUN! From salsa dancing in the streets to picking strawberries on a farm, we capture the essence of who a couple really is. The Engagement Session is also is a secret to our beautiful wedding photography. Because we have so much fun with our bride and grooms during their engagement session it really shows in their wedding pictures! They are relaxed and can drop their guard around us because we have truly become a friend—not just a professional person providing a service on their wedding day. We deeply care about our bride and grooms and want them to see them experience the best that love has to offer.
Describe your style.
The one key element that defines the Kate+Kris style is the ambience captured using natural light. At our core we are natural light photographers who have mixed elements of editorial photography and coupled it with fine art portraiture. The result is what we call life + style photography.
Tell us about how you view your philosophy regarding your relationships with your brides.
We are just naïve enough to believe that little seeds can yield big things. Both of us have families that have experienced the heartache and trauma that only divorce can inflict and we want to do whatever we can to help stop this epidemic in America. Ideally, we would love nothing more than to be able to say that our brides have a zero percent divorce rate! We look to find little ways that we can help protect and nurture the love that our brides and grooms have found. This is one of the reasons we are excited about telling our brides about Bon Bon Studios, we know that they will have just as much fun in front of you ladies’ cameras as ours! If they can have a great time playing and posing in front of your camera and at the end of the day walk away feeling like rock stars this is only going to benefit them as women.
